SINKING OF THE W. P. FRYE
GERMAN OFFICIALS PAINED. AMERICA EXPECTS APOLOGY. LO.VDO.Y. March 15. A message from Amsterdam declares that the sinking of the American ship, William P. Frye by the German merchant cruiser Prinz Kitel has caused a most painful impression in German official quarters, where it is ascribed to the unfortunate zeal of an excitable captain. The Press is not allowed to mention the incident. (Received 5.30 a.m.) LOXDOX, March 15. In Washington it is believed that the Berlin authorities will .promptly apologise ior the sinking of the William P. Frye. and promise to make amends, otherwise the whole of the German complaint that Britain is cutting off the German foodstuffs will be upset. Count Bemstorff (Ambassador to the United States) upholds the captain of the Prinz iEitel, declaring that he acted in accordance. with.,the Declaration of London. The crew of the William P. Frye have been detained aboard the Prinz Eitel on the ground that they are Germans, liable Tfor service.
