GISBORNE SUPREME COURT, GISBORNE, this day. The Supreme Court opened to-day. Mr. Justice Cooper congratulated the district on the absence of serious crime. Thomas Alfred Vowles was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for arson at Tologa Bay. Constance McDonald, charged with concealment of birth, was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. MHE AT LYTTEI/rON. • CHRISTCHURCH. this day. A fire at 'Lyttelton early yesterday morning destroyed two bouses in Governor's (Bay Road, occupied by A. V. Williams and J. E. Thompson respectively, and owned by A. Jones, of Chiistclinrch. Williams' house was the first to go, and the occupants had a narrow | escape, the husband being slightly singed. The water supply was inadequate, and the brigade were unable to prevent the flames spreading. FARMER'S SUDDEN DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Joseph Watenburg, aged 53, farmer, of Yaldhurst, was found dead on Riccarton racecourse yesterday. Heart failure is presumed to have been the case.
