lupkovv pass Again in their hands. WHEN THE MUSCOVITE BEGINS TO FIGHT.' PETROGRAD, March 1C '' An official report states:—The Germans have assumed the offensive in the Seyny region. We annihilated parties which crossed the river south of Gorlitc, and also made three companies of Austrians prisoners. We carried Lupkow and Smolgik, in.the Carpathians/between the Dukla and Uzsok Passes, and the surrounding heights by a flank attack, capturing four guns, seven maxims, and 4,000 prisoners. The Cossacks exterminated three squadrons of Prussian Hussars at Nieriviska, in East Galicia. General Oba, in an interview, stated that though partial German successes were always possible he was convinced that when Russia's aggressive operations began they will sweep away the enemy. An official report state* that fierce snowstorms are raging in the Carpathians. In Galicia the situation is unchanged. In a audden and.inexplicable panic on the night of the 12th the Germans northward of Prasnysz retreated four versts, abandoning quantities of rifles and ammunition.
