AIM OF OPERATIONS IN THE CHAMPAGNE.
GERMANS KEPT PINNED TO WESTERN THEATRE. UNABLE TO SEND TROOPS TO RUSSIA. PARIS, March 12. It is officially reported that several weeks' operations in the Champagne district have been completely successful, compelling the Germans to employ from four to five and a-half army corps, which were forced to consume an envrrr.ous quantity of ammunition. The enemy was prevented from sendin" troop- to Russia. The French gained a front 7,oooyds long, including valuable heights, and annihilated two regitaents of the Prussian Guards. They found 10 000 German corpses and captured 2,000 prisoners and many machine-guns.* The Blisoners appeared to be extremely depressed.
