NATIONAL RESERVE.

The Xorthcotc branch of the National Reserve has enrolled olxty members since its formation three weeks ago, and keen interest is taken in the drills. The various squads were last night instructed in drill by Sergeants Crocs, Iβ Petit, Roberts, and Armitago, under the Officer Commanding, Colotir-Sergt. AY. C. Smith.

It was decided to alter the weekly drill night to Tuesday at 8 o'clock in tho Norfchootc Hall, Mre. Tarry having generously placed the .building at the disposal of the Reserve for the present, and the Birkenhead and Northcote Gas Co. has offered to provide the lighting gratis. It is understood that the services of Sergt.-Major Turner will be available for tho Northcote branch ac instructor now that the night has 'been changed from Thursday, which is occupied by him in giving instruction at Birkenhead.

The Birkenhead unit underwent a course of drill and marching last night, there being a good muster. Sergt.-Major Turner gave some interesting particular* of his experiences in the South American war, and lectured on "Visual Training," explaining how companies I locate the object .they wie'h to ehoot at Mr. l< 1 . J. Colmer (for cix and a-ltalf years colour-sergeant in the Civil Service 1 Rifles, Wellington Battalion) was elected Commander, and Mr. Fred Jepp (for seven years a member of the West Kent Regiment, with South African war experience) was elected ptatoon-eergeant. THE PARNiFLL CONTINGENT. I APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS. At the Wednesday night drill of the 'Parnell branch of the National Reserve the following officers were appointed:— Officer Commanding, Major F. A. Field, late sth Lancere; Second in Co-/mand, Lieutenant F. A. Hansard, late Lieutenant A.S.C. and Egyptian Frontier Field Force: 2nd Lieutenant, Mr. H. P. Joeey, late private Royal Marine Light Infamtry; Company Sergeant-Major, H. C. Cog, late Sergeant Cth Contingent South African Field Force; Company Q.M. Sergeant. M. E. Ward; Platoon Sergeant, W. R. Holmes, late Sergeant D Battery.

Many new members are joining, and the company is rapidly getting tip to full strength. Intending members are invited to present themselves at St. Stephen's Native School next Wednesday evening for enrolment.
