ENSURING MODERATE PRICED LOAF.
MELBOURNE, this day. At a conference between the millowners and a sub-committee from the Cabinet an agreement was arrived at by whicb the imported wheat will be sold for 7/8 a bushel, provided that the flour is sold at £16 a ton, in order to prevent the price of bread exceeding 9d the 41b loaf. It cost the Ministry 8/2 to land the American wheat, so that the arrangement will involve a loss of Cd a bushel. The State Premier (Sir Alex. Peacock) stated that the Government had secured seven cargoes, representing 1,000,000 bushels of wheat, for importation.
