'At the Royal Commission's inquiry into alleged "corruption in connection 'With the Wheat Acquisition Act, Mr Fitzpatriek (treasurer of the Fanners and Settlers* Association) explained that he was the person who mentioned to Mr Campbell (secretary of the association), ■who gave evidence the previous day, the rumour regarding the alleged payment to Mr Holman. He overheard a conversation -wherein the speaker said: "I know Mr Holman got 6,000 for pushing that bill," and he repeated the statement to Mr Campbell. The air at that time was .full of sinister rumours. Mr Drew, a solicitor, gave evidence that he -was offered £300 to take over the -- «ase, -but he discovered it was likely to involve several law cases, and decided not | to accept less than £1,000. Referring to the interview with the Attorney-General, ■witness said he placed the position before I him and discussed the matter.
