SWIMMING GALA.

KAHANAMOKU OUT AGAIN. RECORDS FOR ALBERT STREET BATHS. The second of the swimming carnivals held by the Auckland Amateur Swimming centre in connection witn the Hawaiian swimmers and world sprint champions, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku and George Cunha, attracted a large attendance to the Albert Street Baths last night, and the public had the opportunity of seeing the champions out three times in specialty distances and under handicaps that extended them fully without setting them impossibilities to get in at the finish. In I the 36yds and 100 yds races Kahanamoku I I was placed respectively third and first, j doing the distances in 16is and-SOJs, which I are records for the Albert Street swimming pool; while Cunha, with handicaps of Is and 3s. just missed a place in the dash, and ran his Honolulu companion to a touch for second place lv the 100 yds. The pair started in the dual relay race of 72yds. Kahanamoku swimming with Miss Dorothy Farquhur (the New Zealand lady champion for 100 yds), and Cunha with Miss E. M. Ferguson (off Is), and this quartet dead-heated for second place in 445. being ; a Bfth of a second behind Miss l> , . Buchanan and A. D. Bines, who had the advantage of 11s start. Perhaps the most Interesting race from the point of view ! of gauging the merits of the visitors was the final of the Visitors' Handicap. At the turn 24yds from the finishing string. Kahanamoku, Cunha and Welson (Auckland champion) were practically together, and the Hawaiians fought the final 20yds out Inch by Inch, wllh Welson just banging to them. It looked as if Cunha would possibly pull it off. but the final "Kahanamoku kick" settled tbe matter in favour of the Duke by something between a foot and a touch. Givinic away 14s In the Ladles' Haudlcap of 72yds, Miss Dorothy Farqubar made a game tight of It, doluß the distance In s.">Js, and getting second place, a yard behind the limit lady. Miss V. Verrall. Tbe Auckland 220 yds Handicap was a gift to L. Kronfeld. who started off the 3us mark, and, swimming with a strong, steady swing, increased his lead to something like 20yds at the finish: C. Welsou. tbe scratch man, had just had three previous swims on end, and did not make n serious effort in the last event. The Teams Relay ttaee provided a highly-exciting finish, as tbe Eden, Parneil, Cheltenham and Onehungn last men got their places touch by toucL. Results:— MAIDEN HANDICAP. 38yds. First Heat.—D.
