They met a German submarine off Bcachy Head, which signalled the crew to go aboard another trawler in the vicinity. Before the crew was able to get out the boats the submarine opened fire with her 14-poundcr gun, badly damaging one boat. Finally a shot exploded the Grisnez's boiler, and left her in a. sinking condition. When a large steamer appeared the submarine dived. ;
