CREW TAKEN PRISONER. i X^ ece i T ed 8.50 ajn.) LONDON, March 10. It is officially announced that the German submarine U2O has been lestroyed. The Admiralty states that the craft was rammed and sunk by the destroyer ArieL The U2O kept afloat long enough for the crew to leave her, and they were picked up by the Ariel and taken prisoner. The Admiralty reports that since the first, of February 14 vessels have been unsuccessfully subjected to submarine attacks. Several of the attacked boats had narrow escapes. Submarine T720 was one of Germany's most useful submersibles, though of a class which is third on the list from the point of view of size. She was built in 1912-13, and was of 650 tons afloat and 750 submerged, being driven by engines of 1400-h.p. on the surface and of 500-h.p. below. Her speed above water was 14 knots and below 8 knots, while she had a steaming radius of 2,000 miles. She carried four torpedo tubes, two at the bow and two at the stern, and ten torpedoes. She also carried a 14 pound disappearing gun and two one-pounder anti-aircraft guns. She could disappear in from 25 to 30 seconds. The Ariel is a sister to the Badger, which rammed a destroyer earlier in the war. The British claimed that she sunk this craft, while 'the Germans alleged that the submersible made her way back to port in a damaged condition. The Ariel is one of the "I" class of destroyers, of which there are 23. She is of SOO tons displacement, and with engines of 20,000-h.p. develops a speed of. about 33 knots.
