SUBMARINE SUNK
BY BRITISH DESTROYER
CREW TAKEN PRISONER.
THREE MERCHANTMEN TORPEDOED
CREW OF ONE DROWNED.
Another of the enemy's pirate submersibles has been sunk, the destroyer Ariel having successfully rammed U2O, one of the modern type, sending her to the bottom. The crew were taken prisoner, to join those of ÜB, who are not being treated with the honours of. war, since they have not played the great game according to the rules. Three more merchantmen have been sunk off the English coast by the stealthy submarines. One,.the Tangistan, went down with all her crew save one. The Greek King has'succeeded in his task of obtaining a Ministry against immediate intervention. Several members of x the new Cabinet are, however, favourably disposed towards the Allies, and active particiption at an early date is not unlikely. ■ The Allied fleet continues to hammer at the Dardanelles, but bad weather has operated against accurate shooting, and apparently no extensive progress was made. The Germans evidently recognise that the fate of the Ottoman capital is written, and the "Koelnische Zeitung" advises the Porte to make the city free under guarantees from Greece, Bulgaria and Rumania, with an Italian protectorate. / It will be interesting to note how the Turk will accept this practical abandonment to her own fate by the Power which cajoled her into the war. It is reported that Abdul Hamid, the ex-Sultan, has escaped from captivity, and that a dramatic coup is anticipated in Turkey. The fighting in Poland has been of a desperate character, and the Russians have held their own in the struggle. The Germans are massing large numbers of troops in the Prasnysz region, presumably for another attack upon the centre which broke their last advance.
