UNION TAKES ACTIOIT. . THREE MEMBERS EXPELLED. At a meeting of the Auckland Water* side Workers' Union last night a recommendation -from the executive of the union that three men. be. expelled considered, and resulted in the three men, who' had been convicted for various offences—one for cargo broaching—being expelled by a unanimous vote of 'the members present. The secretary (Mr. S. Rickards), in moving that the executive's recommendation be given effect to,' remarked that they must deal wit* .the matter with a firm hand if they desired to keep the union clean. Mr.-- G. Davis seconded ' the motion, and endorsed the remarks of the- secretary, expressing regret that a few men should bring the union into discredit.* Mr. Wood, the president, expressed: the opinion" that it "was the "duty of every member to give all possible assistance in preventing cargo broaching. The executive's ambition was to keep "the union a clean one, and to encourage desirable men to remain in .work on" the: waterfront. He explained that the executive' were determined to give the police every assistance in sheeting home future cases,-and appealed to members to assist the executive in what was their duty as members .of the union if they wished to uphold the prestige of their organisation.
