LAWN TENNIS.
The report of the international committee dealing with the financial side of the Davis Cup matches last year, which is published in "American Laiwn Tennis," shows very clearly and comprehensively the transaction* in each of the matches. The figures arc given in dollars, but it appears that the total receipts in round numbers were approximately £16,900, of which £11,470 came from the challenge tie between United States and Australasia, £2070 from Australasia v. ( British Islee, £1580 from Australasia jv. Canada, and £1180 from Australasia v. Germany. The disbursements were 'naturally heavy, the construction of grandstands being essential for each tie. For United States v. Australasia the expenses ran to £4300, while Australasia v. British leles cost £950, Australasia v. Germany £530, and Australasia v. Canada £460. These expenses do not include the amounts paid to the dubs on whose grounds the matches were contested, for the United States National L.T.A. very generously defrayed thie item, which might reasonably have been charged as expenditure on the matches out of its own share of profits. Aβ this sum amounted to about £1200, it will be seen that the visiting nations derived considerable benefit from this action of the United States National L.T.A.
