MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS.

MAY STOP AT NEWMARKET. ACTION" BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. An attempt is being made by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, at the request of various citizens, to get the .Main Trunk express, Auckland to Wellington, to stop at Newmarket. Newmarket is 11 merit central position for many travellers. Even from Ponsonby and Karangahape Koad the tram car to Victoria Avenue would enable many to take the express at Newmarket, while ior Mount Eden. Remuera, F.llerslie, Epsom ami also Mount Eden, it is a most convenient stopping place. It is pointed out that at the present time people have to come right down to the wharf to catch the express and then take cars back to the suburbs. The express stopping at Newmarket would, to a great extent, relieve the rush at the central station. Newmarket has also the advantage of being the junction for the railway north, besides being practically the centre of Greater Auckland. These matters were referred to in correspondence submitted at the meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, nnd a reply was read from the Minister for Railways, stating that the request would have every consideration, and with a view to that, he would go into the matter with the officers of the Department.
