HIGH RENTS.
'To tbe Editor.) Sir, —In my opinion, one who signed herself "A Working Woman" is entirely under a wrong impression when she I states that Auckland is cheaper in rents ' and living than elsewhere in New Zea-1 land". You will find houses to rent in the heart of Dunedin for 12/6; houses— not upstairs shanties. In Christchurch 1 rented a newly renovated six rooms for 13/(i with even' modern convenience. It is a rare thing to find two families in one house in Ohristchurch or Dunedin. As to the living question, Auckland is the dearest place 1 have lived in in New Zealand. A working man finds it very hard to live on his wages and pay his way, ami by the time he does that he cannot save much. —I am, etc., SOUTH ISLANDER.
