SUSPENSION OF SHIPPING.
COMPANIES MIARKLNG TIME. Most of the local shipping offices are preserving their attitude off marking time until definite instructions arrive lroin their London headquarters. Fortunately the crisis has arrived at ~-a time when shipping is comparatively •jack, and the sailing dates of the few steamers that are duo to load at Auckland for oversea ports -within the next **o or three days are still uncertain. It is understood that a substantial Increase in the war rates -on shipping will he announced to-morrow. MAIL STEAMER LEAVES SUVA. Advice 'has been received .by the local office of the Union Company that the fl-Ms, Marama, en route from Auckland to Vancouver, arrived at Suva on ln esday last, and continued her journcT to Vancouver the. same evening. are. at present in winter quarters, and can 'he launched, at short notice. MAIL BOAT DELAYED. Messrs. L. T). Nathan and Co., Ltd.. received 'advice this afternoon which stated that the sailing date, of the mail steamer Arewa, from Wellington for London, has -been postponed until August 20. This is one week later than tbe time-table date.
