WARSHIPS OFF CALIFORNIA.
1 LOOKS LIKE A BRUSH. (Received S a.m.) SAN DIEGO, August 5. The British warship Shearwater is cleared for action, and lighting is reported to be imminent. ll will be remembered that a cable of a few days ago reported that two ('crman warships of the Pacific squadron were seen off the coast of California, and it was thought that they had an idea of making for the West Coast of Canada, with the object of doing some damage.
