YOUNG COUPLE'S TRIALS,

WU'E SEEKS REFUGE IN COURT TWO CHILDREN TO CONSIDER. A case of a somewhat sordid nature occupied the attention of Mr C. C. Kettle, SjM., at the Magistrate's Court this morning, the parties concerned being a comely young married woman, her jealous husband, and their two children, which were being maintained in a registered home while the mother earned her living and theirs. Florence Hannah Quoi, the complainant, sought to obtain a separation order and maintenance from the defendant, Thomas Joseph Quoi, an essential feature of her suit being the custody of the two children, four and two years of age, respectively. Mr C. E. Matthews ap peared for the complainant. It was shown in evidence that the parties were married at a registry office in • 1908, having known each other for about a year previously. The woman was a barmaid and the man was a cook. Their Hves since had not run along the usual lines of domesticity, and the complainant alleged cruelty against her hueIband, who, she said, showed at times a tendency to overindulge in liquor. She had been compelled to return to her former occupation before and eince the birth of *he second baby, and her husband's allegations regarding her since had been of a moat malicious nature. The magistrate questioned both parties very clofeely, severely reprimanded the husband on the dastardly conduct to which his unreasonable joa-louey had led him, and gave them both some sound advice. He then adjourned further hearing of the case sine dde, ordering the husband in the meantime to pay 10/ per week towards the current •maintenance of each of his children, and 5/ per week towards the arrears of maintenance. Each party was to have access to the children, and the magistrate expressed the hope that the family would goon be settled down again in a home of their own.
