I - HTJI/E KEEPER DROWNED. <Br Telegraph.—Press Association..! WELLINGTON, Friday. A strong northerly wind prevailing in Wellington 'to-day was the cause of a fatal harbour accident by' which James Waterstreet. 32 years of age, keeper of the hulk Solgram. lost his "life. Waterstreet and a..man-named John Green were engaged on the hulk, which i had been used in coaling the ferry steamer Wahine The tug Teraivhi'ti had towed the Solgram to her moorings near Tborndon. and Waterstreet and Green had clinfbed down a rope to a buoy to fasten "the lines from the hulk. They had nearly completed their task wfien the line holding the ehaok'les .broke, and both men were precipitated, into the water.' There was a big sea on at the time. A lifebuoy was thrown -to the struggling men. Green grabbed at the line, and caught it, and pluckily "fed" out a couple of feet' of the rope towards Waterstreet. ' Green then felt himself being tugged aboard, and after feeling a hump against the buoy, reached the deck of the Terawhiti. Waterstreet: however, could not swim, and by the time Green had been hauled to safety he had disappeared, and was never seen again. Waterstreet lived on the hulk with his wife. Mrs. Waterstreet was on board when the accident occurred. She was in the cr>bin at the time, but on hearing cries she rushed on deck. At Taoroa on Thursday a man named Tom Carlton was driving a wool wagon, •when the leaders got out of hand. Tie waggon was capsized 15 feet over a bank, rolling over the driver, who was partly protected by falling into a depression in the ground. He sustained a fractured skull, and died this morning. A verdict of accidental death wa.s returned by the. coroner.
