THE CARGOES HANDLED.

GOOD WORK BY NEW MEN. INWARD AND OUTWARD SHIPMENTS.. .:.:- The important steamer'arrivals of the last few days have been handled with praiseworthy promptitude. The Makura, arriving from Vancouver yesterday afternoon, en route to Sydney, was working till ten o'clock last night, and is expected to leave to-night on schedule time. The cargo of 1150 tons of general merchandise which she carried will be discharged in seventeen working hours, and further complimentary reference has been made concerning the way the goods have been handled by the new waterside men. Mr. Gunson pointed out this morning that the cargo included a great deal of case goods and other shipments requiring careful handling, and all had been delivered to consignees in first-class condition. The Talune, which leaves for the Islands this evening, not only discharged a large cargo of fruit and copra, but has taken on one of the largest shipments of goods for the Islands -that has been shipped from this port for some time, The cargo comprises all descriptions of goods. The vessel has obtained a full crew, and it is not expected that there will be any hitch in the arrangements for her departure to-night. A large ship ment of sugar, loaded at Chelsea by the , arbitrationists, will be taken "by the Ennerdale, due to sail to-night for Wellington and Timaru. The two hundred tons of Newcastle coal still aboard the Kurow is being unloaded to-day, and it is understood that the coal will be widely distributed, equally for shipping at Onehunga, for town supply, and for urgent country orders. A start was made to unload from the Kaifcuna at King's wharf to-day, and preference 'was given to the perishable cargo, such as fruit, which will go on to the market at once. In addition to a large shipment of butter, the opportunity is being taken of the Opawa's visit to the port to dear away a big accumulation of produce awaiting shipment.
