MR MENZIES GIBB'S WORK.

EXHIBITION AT LEECH'S. The Southern artist, Mr. W. Henzies Gibb, whose work has frequently been admired at Auckland exhibitions, has been spending several months in the North, and some of the results of his visit are to be found at Mr. John Leech's ,_T.s;'ery in Shortland Street, where Mr. Gibb is holding au exhibition. .Mr. Gibb spent two months at Karekare, on the \\ aitakere coast, and the largest canvas he exhibits is a singularly charming oil of the Mill Valley. The low-banked stream, the browsing cattle, the sweep of the cliffs leading up to the rocky height make an effective subject, and Mr. Gibb has caught most happily the wild yet useful note which is the chief charm of the coast. A fine wave study at sunset, from the Fishing Rocks, is instinct with the atmosphere of tbe coast, and there arc several very attractive studies of headland and dune. A number of water-colour studies of .picturesque bits about the Auckland Harbour are nieel-v done. A large oil of the Auckland waterfront from Northcote way on a still morning before the smoky mist 6 have risen, is characteristic. There are also several pretty studies of English scenery, notably -Windsor from across the river, a canal scene, and two sketches at St. Ives, one of Cornwall's quaintest fishing towns. The exhibition is well worth a visit.
