W-JHL THE OVERSEAS CLUB. At a general meeting of the Overseas i Club, held in the Miners* Union Hals, about 40 members were present, the resignation of the secretary (Mr. Johnston) was received and accepted with regret, illness being the cause of bis retirement Mr. ' Farrell was elected to fill the vacancy. The post of honorary treasurer was created, Mr. J. Whitehonse being appointed. The Waihi -Scoutmaster, Mr. A. T. Smith, attended the meeting by request of the club, and suggested, that a locai committee be set up, under the 1 auspices of the Overseas Club, with the ' object of managing and controlling the patrols. The meeting was unanimous in ' supporting Air. Smith's suggestion, and a. committee was formed with Mr. Farrelly ■ as inspector, and the Bey P. Cleary as chaplain. It was decided to celebrate the anniversary of Trafalgar by holding a • public function on that date (21st of , October). The membership of the Overseas Club- is growing apace. The local branch ; now numbers some 140. PAX-BOA. A combined meeting of the Goldfiejds Oddfellows Lodges was held at Waikino on ■Thursday night, when over eighty members were present. X.G. Bro. D. Grnbb, of the ■Waitekiiuri and Golden Cross Lodge, presided, and fourteen' other lodges were repreeented. The Auckland) district was represented by the following officers:—_*Tov. G.M. Bro. Degree, Past V.G.S. ; Degree, Past N.G. Degree, and Past Grand Masters' Degree. At the conclusion of ail lodge business the meeting adjourned for harmony. n\g. Bro. A special meeting of the Mangaweka : Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. '. The engineer reported on the progress of i • the works,- and stated that the water mains to the station were completed, and ! that the. Bailway Department's plumbers were engaged In making the necessary connections. In the course of a few days the railway station will be taking a regular snpply of water from the reservoir. Electricity meters are now-fixed at 4be premises ol every consumer. This brings the Board 1 to a finish in respect of the loans raised , about a year ago. Tbe demand for Hs_t has been so heavy, that the ens-neer cont sidered it necessary to bring the matter of a complete duplication before the Board. The engineer was instructed to report to next meeting. The Town Clerk presented a detailed statement of income and cxi .penditure of loan moneys. From this, "it t was shown that tho water and sewerage ! works, which lncinded dam, flumes, power \ tsonse, pump bouse, septic tank, reservoir j and reticulation of pipes, had cost £7,617 ' 7/1. Tbe installation of electric light, > including poles, transformers, wire, etc.. ' had cost £843 13/3, and the extension of • the water to the railway station £524 18/S, ! the amount still at credit at the Bank 1 being £154 10/1, out of which interest accruing due has to be paid. The Town Clerk was instructed to prepare a detailed report, to be submitted to the ratepayers at a meeting to be held at an early date. A general meeting of the Mangaweka j Public Library Committee was ! ..i in the i Library building on Wednesday evening. The report of the canvassing and concert committees showed that £11 16/6 had been subscribed to complete the Seddon Memorial Bnilding, and the concert had netted about £12. after paying expenses. The latter amount, with the exception of '. a few pounds appropriated to the building fund, will be expended in purchasing new books. It was pointed out that it would require another £13 to complete the Library " .ilding throughont. TATKAPE. The Railway Depstrtrjjirnt held an inquiry at Taihape on Thursday into an alleged "ragging" case amongst the local railway cleaners. About half a dozen of the cleaners were charged with "ragging" a recent ' arrival. --i The Wanganui Education Board decided ! as follows on Wednesday. Re a request from Mataroa for an addition to the school, children must attend a neighbouring school. J The Minister agreed to grant £90 in aid \ of the proposed additions to the ■Raniiwahia ' school. . The Hunterville Town Board met on ! Tuesday night. The secretary of the Fire ; Underwriters' Association replied that the j application of the Board to have Hunterville reclassified would receive consideration.
