(To the Editor.) & " r > —Having been one of the most prominent movers in the last increase of wages of 1911, I wish to most enrphatriel ally contradict the statement that the i Fire Board had only twenty-four hours > in which to consider our petition. The , petition, with the increased scale of ■ wages, was signed by all the then per- ■ manent firemen, and .presented by myself i to the Board's secretary. Mr. P. Butler, in June, lftll, for the increase to come ■into force on July let, the beginning of - the Board's financial year, and after the secretary being asked, had the Board considered our petition, after every meeting, we took no further action until the middle of August, when we demanded, and got, our increase. There was no talk then of filling our places immediately, as the wages were not what an ordinary working man was getting for eight hours' work peT day.—l am, etc., THE SAILOR.
