TRAINING MAORI GIRLS.

QUEEN" VICTORIA COLLEGE. A SUCCESSFUL INSTITUTION. The ninth annual meeting of the Queen Victoria Association wae held at 3 p.m. to-day in the Diocesan Office, Shortland Street. The Victoria School was founded in 1903, and since then 213 girls have been admitted. Of these, 46 are now living in their homes, f>7 are married, 8 nursing. 4 in Miseion work, 1" teaching in native schools, 13 are in domestic eervieo, IS are now out ot touch, 23 have died, 1 is on the Victoria School etn-ff, 3 are at other schools, leaving 43 remaining on the roll at the present time COMMITTEE'S REPORT. Mrs. E. Brooke-Smith read the annual report of the committee. This showe receipts from subscriptions of £260, against £272 for the previous year. The total includes £20 from the Ministering Children League, Paddinglon, which is the last time that contributions will be received. The eutecriplions from Dublin, Dunedin, ac well as from local supporters, are lesa than last year, and although the Association has promised 13 scholarships, it is considered that some epecial efforts will have to be made during the current year to main tain the same.

In connection with this aspect of the finances, the committee record their opinion that the parents and friends of •the girls ehould contribute more largely towards the support of the institution.

LADY SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. Mre. Brooke-Smith also read the annual report of Mrs. ?Jirams, the lady superintendent. This stated that the annual eale was held on October, 1912, when £00 was realised and handed over to provide for three scholarships. The classes for embroidery are still carried on, and this year the girls have already earned £14 by the articles sold. From April to the present time there has been constant ilLness among the girls in the echool, which, wrtb. vaccination, hae retarded the work. Thanks were accorded Dr. ftoberton for his unremitting attention, although so many calls were made upon his time during the last few months. Jvura Ormsby, who has been in training at the general hospital, has pa.ssed another examination, and hopes to take her final as a fully qualiJied nurse next November. Another of the girls joined the Maori Mission in January, and etill another has come back to take the Government nursing scholarship. After a year's probation, she will be taken on at the general hospital etatf if satisfactory. Through the kindne.'e of Mr. VT. Milne's, principal of the Auckland Training Colloge. the game of basket ball hae been instituted at the school.
