IN RAIL-WAY SHUNTING YARDS.

Two engines collided at about 7 o'clock this morning in the Auckland railway yards. One of the locomotives wae of the large class used on the Main Trunk run, while the other wae smaller and used solely for shunting purposes. The engines were engaged in shunting operations at the upper end of the yard, when by some means or other both of them ran on to the same line and came into collision. The smaller engine was nearly lifted off the rails, and was very badly damaged about the fore part, the cow-catcher being buckled and the simoke-box -broken in. The big locomotive was not so badly injured, a smashed cow-catcher being the only damage. Both engines were taken to the Newmarket workshops for repains.
