SMALLPOX IN AUSTRALIA.

NINE CASES YESTERDAY. SYDNEY, August 4. There- were nine smallpox cases in the metropolitan area to-day, and one at Liverpool. Cases from Yass and Ulmarra are und;>r investigation. The latter is believed to be smallpox. The suspected cases at Armidale and Newcastle have proved not to be smallpox. The steamer Karoola. with her passengers and crew, has now been freed from all restrictions at Melbourne. The last contacts have been released, and tbe only occupant at the quarantine station is the woman who caused the original scare. She is progressing well. BRISBANE, August 4. Suspicious cases at Cairns, Ooodna, and Paddington are under observation.
