NEW LYNN INQUIRY.
EVIBENCE OF PASSENGERS, TO BE TAKEN PRIVATELY. . , The condition of Mr. E. H. Stone, who was severely injured in the recent New Lynn railway collision, continues to improve, and bright hopes are held for hie recovery. It is tins happily improbable that the neceeatty for »n inquiry into the cause of bis injuries will arise in the manner suggested as po«: sible by the Minister for Railways (the Hon. W. H. Herries) when approached last week by a deputation from New Lynn with a request for a' public inquiry. On that occasion Mr. Herries, in regretfully referring to the serious condition of Mr. Stone, said that when it became quite certain that a coroner would not be called upon to inquire into the circumstances of tie mishap; it would then be time enough to consider the question of a- public inquiry.
An announcement, to the effect;- that the Departmental Board of Inquiry.win be glad "to hear the evidence of any passenger travelling , by the telescoped train is made by the Department in. .the advertising columns of to-day'e , issue. It is also stated th*t the 'inquiry; (which now stands adjourned) will be resumed in. the railway offices, Auckland, on Friday next. Paseengers desiring to give evidence are requested to communicate with, the District Traffic Manager (Mr. "W. A. Bowies), who will advise them the time their evidence will be taken. Tie inquiry is being conducted foy the Chief Engineer of the Working Railways (Mr. J. Burnett) and the Oriel Traffic Manager (Mr. H. Buxton). BotH officials come from Wellington for the -opening of the inquiry. The nature of the evidence given at the inquiry is not being made public. ;"
