Tbe nature of the disease 'fnjgnjijruioh the half-caete Maori James KoUutai is suffering at the isolation hospital has now been definitely pronounced by the public .health authorities to 'be chickenpox, i Fears of a smallpox outbreak at Onehunga may, therefore, fee laid aside. ■ A statement was made by the District Health Officer to a "Star" reporter this morning as follows: —"Alter- visiting the patient at the isolation hospital, I am able to state that the cause of his illness is chicken-pox of a -wry virulent type. As the man. -was not seen in the early stages of the complaint—in fact, not until the rash was fully out, it was impossible to state definitely tiie exact cause of sickness; but by carefully watching later developments, I am able to pronounce the cause tohtfe -been -as above stated. • During 13ie peripd, of doubt, of course, tbe oB&f tiling to do was to treat the case mc one of 'the more serious complaint. I think that in about ten days the patient will be able to leave the hospital and resume lib usual vocation."
