EDITOR AND JUDGE.
ALLEGATION OF BIAS. (Received 10.10 aan.) PORT DARWIN, this day. Mr Kirkland (editor and proprietor of the "Northern Territory Times") was fined £100 on charges of scandalising a judge and prejudicing the public. A case is still pending of alleged contempt contained in an article commenting on the trial in which a public official was acquitted, and in which he accused the judge of bias. Kirkland refused to pay the fine, and was sent to prison. A public subscription has been started to raise the amount and secure his release.
