At the Paeroa Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr F. J. Burgess, S.M., two native land owners, Rililtoto Mutaia and Petlwal Mataia, sued TV. J. •Johnstone for £100 damages, being the value of 120 tons of green flax valued at 10/ per ton, £00 and £40 damage done to flax plants by a lire which defendant started in his own property and allowed to spread iuto plaintiffs' property, thereby destroying the flax claimed for. Mr Moresby appeared for the plaintiffs and Mr Porritt for defendant. The case Is etill proceeding. The Paeroa Chamber of Commerce held Its monthly meeting last night. Mr E. W. Porritt (president) presided. The question of having the Thames Valley and Goldfields districts represented at the 'forthcoming Auckland Exhibition was fully discussed. Mr McWatters pointed out that the Ohinemnrl County Council bad decided not to contribute to the Walkato Court, but was calling a meeting of delegates of local bodies to discuss the advisability of having a Thames' Valley and Goldfields Court. The Chamber decided to postpone further consideration of the question until after the mectiug of delegates. Mr Plnkelsteln introduced tbe question of a comprehensive drainage scheme for Paeroa, and the question whs discussed at length. The president stated thnt while the river Improvements were being carried out was a very opportune lime to have a drainage system installed, as it would probably work in with tbe works now being carried out by the Public Works Department. It was ultimately decided to ,ask the Public Works Department, through tbe Obinemuri County Council, to authorise Mr K. H. Young (the resident engineer) to prepare a report ami estimate of cost for the construction of a drainage scheme in Paeroa. The lighting of Paeroa was once again discussed, and it was decided to request the Ohlnemuri County Council to ascertain on what terms the Walhl Gold Mining Co. will supply electrical energy to the Council for the purpose of power street lighting and domestic use in tbe townships of Paeroa, Karaugahake, and Welkino.
