THE CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.
Much interest is being taken in the Chrysanthemum Show to be opened in the Town Hall by his Worship the Mayor at 3 p.m. on Friday. Entries haye been received from Cambridge and as far afield as Nelson, as *ell as from a large number of local growers of tbe "Queen of Autumn Flowers." Mr H. T. Goldie, the well-known amateur hort-i-ulturist, has presented the society with a challenge bowl for eighteen varieties of Japanese chrysanthemums, and this will, no doubt, ibo "one of the most keenly contested classes of the show. No less than eleven ilarge groups of pot plants will be staged, covering upwards of 700 square feet, and, in addition, non-competitive exhibits will be mad, by Messrs Henry Brett, H. Goldie, A. M. Myers, M.P., G. W. Wright, and others. The City Council will make v, large display of chrrsantheinums and other plants in pots, and the leading nurserymen will also be strongly represented. Afternoon tea, provided by the Ladies' Committee, will be obtainble in the hall as usual, and Mr W. 0. Garland is arranging a musical programme. The show will be open until 10 o'clock on Friday night, and from 10 ajn. till 9 p.m. on Saturday, when the blooms will be bald by auction by the society's honorary auctioneer, Mr E. A. Perkins. " -
