NORFOLK ISLAND.
SYDNEY, this day. Regarding the Norfolk Island administration, the Attorney-General explains that Mr Houston was not paid for his services, but occasionally received bonuses. He intimated to Sir Gerald Strickland that he did not desire to retain the position unless he received regular remuneration. The Government grants £1,600 yearly towards the expenses of the administration of the island, and is not disposed to increase the amount. Sir Gerald Strickland is prepared to assume all administrative duties, : and therefore Mr Houston's resignation was accepted. He denied that there was any friction over the matter.
