Professor Kivufmann, of the L'niversity of Halle, claims to have "discovered that a solution of palladium, if utilised in a paraffin solution and injected twice weekly ;into corpulent' patients, will reduce their weight to the extent of 21b duily. without any ill-effects being experienced. Palladium is a rare metallic element of. the platinum group. It has a remarkable power of taking in and retaining gases, absorbing in the spongy form nearly a thousand volumes of hydrogen.
