Following on the registration of the new union at Ngahauranga and Petone an industrial agreement has been signed between the Gear Meat Company and the Wellington Meat £Export Company (employers) and the Ngahauranga and Petone Slaughtermen's Union (employees). The principal terms of the agreement are that the ordinary' hours of work shall be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and an ordinary day's work shall not exceed eight hours. Ordinary Saturday work shall not exceed four hours. Rates of pay shall be as. follows: Freezing sheep and lambs, 27/0 per 100: rams, other than lambs, 5d per head; lambs requiring back sets, 5d per head; dead sheep and lambs, 1/ per head; cattle, 2/ per head; dead cattle, 5/ per head; pig 3. up to 12Qlb, 1/ per head; pigs, over 1201b, 1/6 per head; calves, up to 1301b, 1/ per head; calves, over 1301b, 1/6; potter sheep, £1 per 100. The wages shall be paid weekly or fortnightly, according to the practice in particular sheds.
