BOROUGH OF NORTHCOTE.

IN A SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION

The balance-sheet of the Northcote Borough Council for the year ended 31st March, 1913, which has been presented to the Mayor (Mr. George Fraser) shows the borough to be in a sound financial position. Notwithstanding the fact that the expenditure on a number of the accounts exceeded the estimates, the balance-sheet can be regarded as satisfactory. In the general account the total receipts amounted to £1119 13/lli, the principal items being: General rates" £809 1/2*, subsidy £161 6/5, dog registration £22 17/6, licenses £57 2/, refunds £50 2/8, other sources £19 4/2. The expenditure was £1256 12/7. The waterworks account shows: Total receipts (including a credit balance from last year of £2335/11), £826 2/6, and expenditure £710 18/. The various interest accounts provide a total credit balance of £409 5/4. The road and street improvement loan still leaves, after the receipt of the final instalment now due from, the Treasury, a sum of £450 to be expended. In addition, the Council is advised that the 10 per cent additional loan 0f.,, £200 applied for has been provisionally approved of by the State Guaranteed Advances Board.
