THE Y.W.C.A. IN PROTEST.

RESOLUTION FOR THE MINISTER. The feeling which prevails among members of the Young Women's Christian Association in Auckland concerning the ministerial selection .of the Girls' Friendly Society hostels as the official places for the reception of girl immigrants was expressed at a general com. mittee mooting this morning. The following resolution was unanimously carried, and it was decided that it should be presented to the Hon. H. D. Bell: — "The General Committee of the Auckland branch of the Young Women's Christian Association, having read in the daily Press of March 27th the statement of the Hon. Minister for Lnmigration that he has decided to use the Girls' Friendly Society homes as the official places for the reception of the girl immigrants in each of the principal ports, and to grant financial assistance i from the public funds to thnt society 1 for that purpose, desires to draw the attention of the Hon.. Minister to the exclusion of the Y.W.C.A. homes Trom participation in the care of immigrant girls, that would be involved if this statement is complete. For many years past iv England, Australia, and ..Canada, as well as in New Zealand, the Y.W.C.A. has taken an active interest in the welfare of girl immigrants, and has ever been ready to co-operate with the Government in any way to receive and accommodate immigrants. We feel, therefore, that it is not in accordance with the recognised principles of Government in the Dominion, nor in the interests of the girls themselves (many of whom are not Anglicans), that the Girls' Friendly Society should be the only officially recognised as doing this important service to the Dominion. We would earnestly request that the Hon. Minister will make such arrangements as-will allow us to share in this work on at least an equal footing with any other organisation."

In view of tlic visit of the Hon. H. D. Bell to Auckland to-day, it may be found practicable to present the resolution during his stay.
