BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR.

FLOATING IN MID-STREAM. NOT YET IDENTIFIED When the Northcote ferry steamer was returning to the city shortly after 8 o'clock this morning some of the passengers noticed the body of a man floating face downwards in the middle of the harbour, and the waterfront police were notified immediately on the boat's arrival. Sergeant Cowan and Constable Bruton lost no time in getting a boat and making for the place where the body was last seen, and they found it floating upstream, midway between Northcote Point and Ponsonby. It was at once brought ashore and lodged at the Morgue for identification. The body, which was fully dressed, with the exception of a. hat, was that of a man of about 30 years, of average height, and medium build. It had evidently been in the water for about a fortnight, and the fate was considerably mutilated, though it is evident that the man had been clean shaven. The clothes consisted of a dark tweed suit, canvas shoes, and soft shirt, but there was no collar or tie. They arc of a quality and condition that suggest that the man was a labourer. The man's effects offer no clue to his identity, consisting of 1/4 in money, ah old ring (apparently brass), and a collection of buttons, thread, needles, pair of scissors, and a comb. The latter is known in police circles as a " park outfit," from the fact that such articles are usually carried by men of the vagrant class.

Up to the present the body has not been identified.
