CONTINUATION (NIGHT) CLASSES.

(To tbe Editor.) Sir. —Would you permit mc to inquire fhxough the columns o£ your paper whether tlip education authorities intend commencing continuation (night) classes at some of the more important schools in and around. Auckland? My reason for making the above inquiry is the follow ing: Some time ago I was speaking to a friend about the splendid system which the New South Wales Department of JPubJie Instruction were at present using to induce young people (who had failed io take full advantage of the opportunities afforded them in their school days) ±o better equip themselves for the battle of life. My friend informed mc that, although he was not certain, he thought that the local authorities intended introducing a similar system here to that which iad been adopted in >iew South SVates. I was very pleased to hear it. and faope to see Ms statements confirmed through, the Press by the Board of Eduortion. No doubt the local authorities are well acquainted with the scheme a-bove referred, to, and I think: that New Zealand would greatly benefit by adopting some *uch scheme. Not only would the rising generation be more highly edu<tated, but were there night classes to go to I think that the numbers of young men and women who frequent billiard ealooiß. public bars, parks, etc., would be greatly reduced. I have spoken to many who now, realising the benefit of a fair education, would gladly avail themselves of any chances given them which they had at school and let pass. Having to contend with the present, high cost of Jiving, they cannot afford private tuition, but would gladly contribute a small fee to help fin.ince the scheme were it carried out. Both my friend and I should take full advantage of the scheme were it commenced, and feel confident of its suc<«ss in every way.—l am, etc.. A BAD SCHOLAR.
