AS GOOD AS AUSTRALIAN. CITY ENGINEER'S OPINION. That the standard of roading and street-making in New Zealand compares very favourably with that in Australia, is the opinion fomied by the Engineer to the Auckland City CouncU (Mr W. E. Bush), after visiting some of the Commonwealth .States. "After a trip such ac mine," said Mr Bush to a "Star" representative thie morning, "I am naturally reticent in the matter of comparisone, but it is very apparent to mc we are well to the fore in this matter." Mr Bush added that he included the principal centres of New Zealand in the comparison, and he thought -that Wellington, more particularly, showed to advantage against the Australian cities in connection with streete and roadways. "They are more advanced in Australia than we are in regard to city paving," added Mr Bueh, "'but only because the greater growth of their cfties has forced ! them to solve their problems eooner i All the same, I have little doubt that aa our schemes advance we will have northing to fear by comparison with the cities across the Tasmnn Sea." Mr Bush intends to commence forthwith the. preparation of extensive reports to the City Council dealing -with the information which he obtained in the course o£ hie trip.
