CAMBRIDGE WATER SUPPLY.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CAMB-EDGE, this day. The question of providing a moro efficient water supply and! extra pressura for fighting fire purposes came before the Council last night. Cr. Wells pointer, out that the borough wa_> not legally able to raise a loan of £30,000 for a gravitation scheme, even if the rate, payers carried a poll, and he doubted if they would do so. He suggested borrowing £4,000 and erecting another water tower in the centre of the town to give extra pressure and to instal a suction gas pumping plant to use up the cokß made at the gas works, thus saving suis» ficient to pay interest on the loan. A committee was set up to consider the scheme and consult with Mr Metcalfe, ]&—,, as to its prae—-ability. .
