MOUNT EDEN ROADS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your report of the Mount Eden Borough Council meeting 1 see thai the Mayor sh-riters himself and councillors behind the statement that it Jβ contrary to the law to spend money on these narrow roads. Now, 1 would like to know why is it that some narrow roads 'have been taken oveT and put in good order, while the others are left untouched for twenty years ? They have taken our rates for about twenfy years, and have done nothing in return. The question is—Where have these rates been spent? Xiy opinon is that t>v the councillors* conduct they encourage slunidom. If it neede an Act of Parliament to bring these roads under the Council, then the Mayor and councillors should be smart enough to get the Act through Parliament. I would like to aak who does the road belong to, after being used by the public for twenty years, if it doesn't belong to the municipal ivu•thorty. It is the opinion of many ratepayers that too much money has been spent in a small area in the Mount Eden borough, while other streets are left in a deplorable state.—l am, etc.. A LONG-SUFFERING RATEPAYER. LATE HON. JOHN BRY<<E. (To the Editor.)
