One of the biggest landowners of the North -Island has promulgated a scheme by which better slaughtermen of all sorts can be developed and the genera] standard of merit improved. His scheme is to institute competitions in slaughtering at all agricultural shows, for substantial prizes. He suggests three classes: Abattoir slaughtermen, freezing concern slaughtermen, and two or three classes for farm and station hands. So far the matter has been one of private discussion only, but it is understood that on the general committees of a majority of A. and P. Associations, the matter will receive considerable support.
