FIRES IN THE SOUTH.
'.By Tetesrapii —Press AjsooetaOta.) CHEISTCHTJECH, Sunday. A fire broke out in. Messrs. Booth, Macdonuld ajid Go.'s engineering works at j Sydenham at about 3.40 p.m. to-day. It was confined to the moulding and pattern shops, which formed part of toe old building. At one time it looked as if the greater part of the works would be involved, but tha brigade was very promptly at work, and the outbreak was localised. The building was insured for £400 in the Sun Office, and the contents for £900. Mr. Booth estimates the damage approximately at £1,000. DUXEDIN, Sunday. j A five-roomed wooden house at Morn;ington, occupied by Mr. James Pickard and owned by Mr. Donald Cumming, was destroyed by Are on Saturday night. The insurances on the house are not ascertainable, but the furniture and effects were insured in the Victoria office for £150. It is supposed that the articles of clothing left in front of the flre to dry became ignited and caused the outbreak.
