NEW BRIDGE AT MANGERE.
ALLOCATING THE COST. A'communication was read at the Grey Lynn Borough Council last night in respect to the proposed new bridge across the Manuka n from Onehunga to M&ngere. It was from -the Public Works Department, Wellington, stating that the Marigere Road Board was taking steps under section 119 of the Public Works Act, 1908, to require the following local bodies- to contribute towards the cost of the proposed bridge: "Mangere 27 per cent, Onehunga Borough Council 25 per cent, Auckland City Council 15 per cent, Newmarket S per -cent, EHersHe Town Board 3 1-3 per cent, Mount Wellington Road Board 3 1-3 per cent, Otahuhu Borough Council 15 per cent, and Papatoetoe Road Board 3 1-3 per cent. Several local bodies, in particular the Auckland City Council, had raised objections, which contended that the allocation was not a fair one, and that the following local bodies should also contribute: Mount Roskill, Epsom, One-tree Hill, Remuera, Parnell,. Mount Eden, Mount Albert, Arch HUI, Grey Lynn, Eden Terrace, and Avondale. The letter stated that the Council was notified in order that such steps should be taken a≤ were deemed necessary to defend its view of the case. The letter of protest, from the City Council raised the following points: That no portion should be charged to Auckland, and (2) that if any portion is charged to the city, the other districts should be included. On ttie motion' of Cr. Tattersdeld, seconded by Cr. Warnock, it was resolved that the Town Clerk be authorised to repudiate any liability on the part of the borough of Grey Lynn.
