Elsewhere we publish the balance-sheet of the Bank of New South Wales for 30th September, 1912. Liquid assets, —&,1_3,2_0 3/13, amount to over 50 per cent of the bank's liabilities to tbe public, and the balance-sheet discloses a position of Very great strengtn. At the half-yearly meeting resolutions were carried to increase the bank's capital by another £300,000. The chairman at the h.all -yearly meeting referred to the arrest in the growth of deposits as a feature of banking generally in Australasia at present. He ascribed it to a spending impulse, public and private, which had arisen ont of the rapid growth of deposits in the few preceding years. NATIONAL MUTUAL LIFE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
