The steamer John, 339 tons, owned by • Captain Hull, Wellington, and sailing under Captain Helm, ran ashore at the mouth of the Tukituki River, 10 miles south of Napier, during last night. She ; was on the way from Gisborne to Wellington, having left Poverty Bay at 1.15 * pan. yesterday, with 60 bales of wool. > The Tangaroa has heen dispatched to > render assistance. Details are meagre, •■ but the crew are all safe, and the sea is very calm.
