■ ■•■■■ 1 ■ AVONDALE ROAD B6ARD. The ordinary meeting of the Avondale Road Board was held hist evening at the Board's office. The following members were present: Messrs. J. Potter (chairman), Campbell, Wyman, Spargo, Tait, and Kneesbone. The e_iairman accorded Mr. F. Bluck, the retiring clerk, the best wishes for his future and their regrets at his decision to sever bis connection with the Board. He then welcomed Mr. Vallance to his pejsitioh. The new clerk takes up his duties from to-day (Thursdayl. Mr. J. Bollard, chairman of the Avondale School Committee, wrote regretting the action of the Road Board in Its decision to leave over the construction of a drain from the school till some future date, and urged tbe reconsideration of the question. Mr. wyman said that he would like to see the temporary drain, previously suggested, laid down, and niprcd in that direction, but the motion lapsed for want of a seconder. The chairman moved that Mr. Bollard be informed that nothing could bo done now, as steps were being taken to borrow money to carry out a drainage system for the t_icsljr-p6pul_ted area, and that money laid down now -re-onld only be waste of money. On being put to the meeting, the resolution rece_ved the support of three to three, and the chairman exer tised his casting vote for the resolution. The chairman further stated that the engineer was now at work on drawing up a scheme which would be ready about February to be voted on by the ratepayers. Mr. T. Manning w_s reappointed ranger and dog registrar for the coming year, and the fee fixed for each dog ls 5/. The engineer forwarded plans and specifications for the formation of White Swan Road, which ls a matter of 51 chains to Be formed 40 feet wide from Manukau Road to the boundary of the Mt, Roskill Road Board. Tenders for the work are advertised nnd are returnable at the chairman's office, Strand Arcade, up to Jannary 3, 1913. MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD. Walkowhai Park.—ln answer to a number of applieiatlons for permission to camp In Walkowhai Park during tbe holidays, the Board decided to inform applicants that it bad riot the power to grant permission until tbe roadlng, fencing, and terracing works were completed. It WaS decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr F. W. Lang, M.P., for his assistance in securing from the Government a subsidy of £500 for the nark. Deputation.—A deputation consisting of Messrs P. M. Hansen, Jones, and Lockie Gannon waited on the Board In regard to the proposed subdividing of estates entailing the formation 6f three miles of roads. The Board decided to inspect the properties. GRAMMAR SCHOOL BOARD. The meeting of the Auckland Grammar eSchool Board yesterday afternoon was attended by Pfofessor F. D. Brown (in the Chair), Dr. Reberton, Hon. J. A. Tole, and Messrs C. J. Parr, A. R. Harris, D. S. Wallace, and A. Kidd. A Resignation.—Mr Heaion, the scuence master, forwarded his resignation, aud the question Of appointing a successor to him was referred to the committee WWon is already. considering applications for masterships. 1913 Prize-giving.—lt was resolved to engage the Town Hall on December 18, 1913 for the annual prize-giving ceremony, so that the Board would be Certain Of having a building large enough for the- purpose. New Building.—The Education Department wrote to the effect .that the sum of fej.ooo would be available next year for the new colleger, and a further £6,006 in 1814. KING'S VETERAN GUARDS. The monthly parade ot tbe above Corps was held in the JDrill Hall on Wednesday evening, Captain Cauiton, O.C, presiding. Much grattflcation was cause*! By the' fact that the (jrovernment had forwarded side arms for equipment of members, and it Was the general feeling that the corps had started on a new era of prosperity. The corps express thanks to Mr Braeiney, M.P., for his services in this connection. Sevesrai new recruits were enrolled, and as the corps increases in strength it ls hoped that a step further would be taken and rifles issued. It was decided to have a church parade at the beginning of the year.
