LONDON, July 30. The sixth test match at Manchester was again delayed by rain, and it was not until five o'clock that the game was resumed, Rhodes (92 not out) and Smith (who had not opened his account) facing W'hitty and Hazlitt. The wicket was very soft, and a strong breeze made things uncomfortable. MacLaren again fielded as substitute for Macartney, who was suffering from a chill.

Hazlitt opened with a maiden to Smith, and then Rhodes, without increasing his score, played on Whitty's second ball. He had shown fine judgment, cutting and driving well. He hit eight fours, and was in 225 minutes. Seven for 185. Haigh filled the vacancy, and! Smith was cleverly caught nest over. Eight for 189.

Barnes was the incomer, and Haigh, at seven, gave a chance of being run out, Carkeek failing to handle the ball. He added two, and) was then caught. Nine for 199.

Hitch, the last man, succumbed to a slow yorker. England batted 40 minutes to-day. Jennings and Kelleway faced Foster and Haigh. Foster bowled one over, and was then replaced by Woolley. Four consecutive maidens were bowled, and the pair had not been separated when stumps were drawn.
