BIG BLAZE IN FITZROY.
PRISONERS' EXCOTHG TIME.
July 30.
A fire occurred last night at Stone's ! timberyards at Fitzroy, which covered three "acres. Timber machinery of a value of £20,000 was destroyed. The Town Hall and a row of cottages on the opposite side of the street were 'badly damaged. The inmates of the cottages escaped in their night attire. There were several narrow escapes. The police headquarters at the Town Hall, where a number of constables were sleeping, caught fire. One constable was rescued in an unconscious condition. The prisoners in the cells had an exciting time. They were removed for safety.
