DEATH OF MR. W. B. MASON.
News was received this morning of the sudden death in America of Mr William 11 Mason, who was well-known in Auckland. His lather, the late Mr XV. Mason, came to Auckland 50 years ago with the nonconformists, and was for many years in the Customs Office, Auckland, marrying, after his arrival. Miss .1. (_'. Bettridge, of Ponsonby. On the father's death, the family went to America, and Mr W. B. Mason entered the printing business at Brockton, Massaphusets, building up a fine connect there. He was only 47 years of ape, and died suddenly, after a short illness. On Saturday, May 13, hewas taken ill, and when Mrs Mason went to his bedside at 5 o'clock on the following morning, it was found that he had passed away. Tlie late Air Mason was prominent as a singer, and -was one of tho original members of the Gerrish male quartette. About 5 years' ago his voice failed, and he was obliged to give up singing. Up maintained his interest in musical matters, however, right up to the •time of his death. The late Mr Mason was also a prominent Mason. His mother survives him. and also his wife and three sisters.
